When you're connected to your 3G after checking the settings etc, you see a 3G/G in your status bar right? Ignore it, reboot back into NITDroid then you'll be working

And I had the same Whatsapp problem, even went as far as emailing Whatsapp themselves, didn't seem to find a cure though :/
