Yes, they can call each other in a number of ways (Jabber, Gtalk, Skype, SIP, Gizmo) My preference would probably be something like Jabber or Gtalk (XMPP/Jabber based) as it's lightweight and built-in. That would give you text, voice and video between the two tablets depeding on what you wanted to use at the time.
