I've dealt with simular problems and I can tell you that no amount of network tweaks will help. It's all in the DNS. I have earthlink, earthlink puts a * in there dns so that if any kind of dns error occurs..... they get a hit on their add page. Plus the dns severs for my area don't always reply in a timely manor so you have to wait for timouts (up to 5 minutes) Your neighbor I'm sure doesn't have the same name servers you do. Your choices are
1. Use another nameserver
2. Refresh using your neighbors wireless and d/l with yours.
3. Build your own nameserver.
Personally I just use OpenDNS. my /etc/resolv.conf is now
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
nameserver 127.0.0.1
my little n800 is much happier. (laptops work better too)
