It's late, so I'll be brief. I owned an N6230 for over 6 years before I moved to the N900. Before that I had another device (Motorola based) for nearly 4 years. I don't see the N900 failing on me any time soon hardware wise, and can easily see it still being my main device for at least a few years to come. After that, it may turn into a mini web server or a point node, or a web camera, or... who knows. But I don't see it going away, any more than my Toshiba Point150 has gone away, being a very nice digital picture frame on my wall (that can also control my home lighting and alarm system).
I think several people are right in thinking there's still a lot of life left for the N900 as a primary device. But enough to sustain all of t.m.o? No.
I do think it could easily go back to being ITT, and expand out to include new tablets. They're catching on like wild fire these days. The question is, does anyone here want to keep it going? I can't speak for anyone, but something tells me that the original folks who started it are probably tired of running things by now. That happens...
The question really is, what level of commitment are those still here looking to put into this? Is there someone here willing to pick up the banner and run with it? And will that person, or group of people, have enough support to keep things going long enough to make it to the next crest in the cycle?
