Android is out of control right now. ZTE and Huawei plan their own android markets, their own ecosystems, even their own versions of the OS, and there is nothing Google can do to prevent it. With Motorola IP and production facilities they can create their own. There is no other way they can protect their interests.

motorola got many software and hardware patent

on hardware they made the first cellphone, thats enough big enough, plus many of the smartphone to be thiner put the bulky antenna on the bottom, like moto RAZR.
also wifi, GSM. 3g. patents. battery consumption etc.
motorola also made the flip phone, swivel, and have patents for sliders.

on the software side motorola developed symbian UIQ with ericsson, several linux based OS.

not sure how many patents it hold but its as many as nortel.

on deal google offering, open alliance members can use motorola/google patents to defend themself on software basis. or hardware design.

forcing the apple or microsoft who never built a phone until 2007. to drop it or make cross license agreement since android would be protected by such patents.

still it doesnt gottta help someone makes 100% iphone clone but it should scare patent trolls like microsoft and apple on software patents.

motorola have freaking 3x3 icon grid even before ipod existed. on v600

kinda like how apple is now even paying nokia money to make phones.
