It's rather strange to me actually. I think I now have a handle on what other people have done...They have been using Google voice in tandem with a SIP phone number (is that right?) that Google voice then calls to, and you pickup that sip call on your phone, and then google voice takes over and all the groovy free call stuff happens, is that it?
I was very lucky in that while I was out of the country, I was able to use Google Voice with Gmail (ie google talk) just by having two tabs open in Firefox. Placed calls and txted peeps back in the states over Google Voice tab, and received the "callback" from Google Voice on the Gmail tab. Simple setup. I made calls to and received calls from the States super breazy.
From what I have gathered, at least with Mozilla, this is made possible by the "Google Talk Plugin" that I spy in my task manager on windows 7...
It seems to me that the key to making the "The One Ring" plugin for Google Voice in conversations function on the N900 like it should, would be to delve into exactly what is going on between being logged into Google Voice and Gmail with this little googletalkplugin.exe that is running as a go between for non cellular/landline call back initiated calls.
I mean...The functionality is there for a PC user...why can't it be reproduced on the N900?
bam.
