I tried out qgvdial from extras-testing, but I have to be honest and say there are a couple of things I don't like about it.

1. You designed the GUI so that I can't access the N900's windowing(IE, the only way I know of how to switch out of qgvdial is to hit the off button on top of the phone, and then go to phone, and then from there back to the main desktop screen, which is annoying as all hell.) Maybe there's another way to do this, I don't know.

2. In the callback setting/option,

A.using Skype didn't work for me, it did ring me from my Skype number, but all I got was a garbled message which was clipped off basically saying "try again" or some such thing from Skype's operator system.

B. In your description of what it can do, you say "In [addition] to the usual callback method, "direct dial" is also possible using the sim card number or skype / sip." I don't really know what "using sim card number" means, but I suspect that means just whatever mobile number is associated with your sim card, which wouldn't work in my situation at the moment, plus it defeats the whole point of using GV for me in the first place IMO, considering that minutes either are finite, or infinite; if my minutes are infinite, what do i care about using Google Voice? I am assuming that SIP works fine, since there is no real work involved on your end in getting SIP to function, that's another server somewhere.

3. For some reason, I couldn't get my Google contacts to load, although this isn't really a big deal because all my Google contacts are just reproductions of the ones I have stored on the N900.

4. I had poor results using your interface (which for the most part is very similar to Dial Central) for txt messaging. First off, some of the test txts i sent didn't go through. Another thing, It seems really redundant on this phone to do anything as a separate running application. I am using TOR right now, with its plugin that integrates with conversations, and it does me good. I know you have qgv-tp, but I couldn't even edit its account settings or anything from the conv. accounts window, which was a little hinky too. And I think from a contacts information, sending txt messages opened up qgvdial after i initiated the txt from the "conversations" section, which is additionally, redundant.

If you really want QGV to stand apart from anything else for the N900, I would highly recommend integrating what xur17 is trying to do with yate-client into your program, where you can use the "Gmail call/Google Talk" method to place and receive calls and texts, and also, I think that (even though your GUI is cool looking,) having it be invisible would be better, and integration with the phones standard services.

If you think about it, the original "cool" feature about Google Voice, was that for people who have lots of telecommunication portals, work phone, cell phone, car phone, mobile #1, #2, etc...Google Voice was Kick *** because you could give out only 1 #, and anyone could reach you if you were anywhere near any of those phones. But I think for the majority of users of Google Voice, it's the FREE aspect of the service that really counts. So now the most important factor in being a Google Voice user, is mobility, and zero cost, and being able to place calls on GV like we do on the PC on our mobiles, for free.

Again thanks for the comments, I am going to check out xur17 and see whether or not that might work for me, but at the moment, and I have been using it for a couple days now, this is my setup.

I have Google Voice + IPKALL DID # + Callcentric

On the N900 I am using TOR, with a SIP account through Callcentric, and it works reliably well, and call quality (at least on WiFi) at home is fantastic. Txt messages I initiate through the contacts section, but once I have a single conversation going through the "Conversations" section of the N900, I never really have to bugger around with it anymore since it logs everything and i just keep talking

I am very happy with this setup for the moment.

The last thing I need to do, is figure out whether or not I can put a mobile broadband SIM card, say.....from T-MOBILE, into my N900, and then be mobile with broadband access, never needing a carrier number again, (or at least until our free calling comes crashing to the ground :P )

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this point? I have read somewhere recently that someone did the exact same thing with a N95, which I used to have, and I'm inclined to think that if a 95 can work, a 900 should too.
