LOL, I know what you mean -- no device to play with for the last month. I'm really hoping to get one before Christmas, but that might be pushing it a bit close...

but they are still not officially released ... running BETA code. It is not doing the platform any good to release a half baked device to a bunch of people because they have cash. I truly believe they should have brought in the developers first, and made the device more consumer ready before release. This would truly help beginners and make a better overall experience for new end users, instead of turning them off.

Is this all a bad timing scenario, where marketing said PUSH it out for Christmas. The diehards know what they are buying, but the newbies need a fairly solid device to have a good experience. Diehards and developers will not make this platform last. Quality experiences for new users will, and they should be getting more a more mature device.

Oh, I totally agree -- they royally botched it in this regard; I'm just saying the sky isn't falling. The sky is still their. Even if I wasn't in the Dev code group, they should have got the Dev the devices first -- the Dev's are the people who will port the apps, be able to debug things and generally allow the plateform to be a bit more stable. They did good by releasing the beta 2008 for N800 but it should have been done right away not weeks later after people figured out how to "hack" it on to the n800.

As they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression.
Yep, and they aren't making a great one on this release.
