It's outlined in the NITDroid n900 port "Install Guide".

You can see the detailed steps from the link above, but the short of it is that you'll have to install "kernel-power-bootimg" and then create a proper multi-boot entry for it. Don't worry, you don't have to create the entry manually, installing the "multiboot-kernel-power_0.3_armel.deb" package will do it for you. Oh, and in case it's not obvious, you'll want to boot into Maemo to do the above steps.
