Unlock your Dell Streak, and open the application launcher. Scroll to "Market," and tap on the icon to launch the Android Market. Type in: "terminal emulator," and press "Enter." Select "Android Terminal Emulator" from the list, then tap "Free" under "Install." Tap "OK" to accept the permissions, and wait for the app to install on your Streak.

Press the "Home" button, then open the Application Launcher again. Tap on the icon for "Android Terminal Emulator." This will load up the Linux terminal command prompt. If you see a "#" off the bat, you have root access. If you see a "$" you will need to run a command to check if you have root access.

Type: "su," then press "Enter." If the command prompt changes from "$" to "#" then you have root access. You might need to allow the Super User app access after you enter the command -- "su" stands for Super User.
