Press the "Home" button, then open the Application Launcher again. Tap on the icon for "Android Terminal Emulator." This will load up the Linux terminal command prompt. If you see a "#" off the bat, you have root access. If you see a "$" you will need to run a command to check if you have root access.

Type: "su," then press "Enter." If the command prompt changes from "$" to "#" then you have root access. You might need to allow the Super User app access after you enter the command -- "su" stands for Super User.

Great instructions, I now know that my phone is not rooted. What, then is the easiest way for me to "root" my phone? The only reason that I want to do this is because most of the free "screen shot" apps are for a rooted device.
