it's kind of funny, actually i had tried the k701... and thought of them as the king. then i heard of the HD800, and had to confirm my belief that they weren't better, just ridiculously priced. i was wrong. i've tried stax, beyer, and akg, and nothing pleases my ears as much as hd800. strongly reccomended from my experience!!
