Not related to KP. This behavior was introduced in Nokia Pr 1.3 update, and mainly result in putting special (Alt Gr, i.e numbers) character, when You hold button for a while. It can be disabled by editing some gconf2 entry, + there is a package in repos that adds statusmenu applet to enable/disable this "feature" on demand.
