You were right -- messing around with kernel-config profiles shows me that above Handbrake Constant Quality rf=25, I needed to overclock beyond 600Mhz for h264 480x368 video to play. I also find that the stock Media Player works better than OMP, due to a bug where OMP's controls for a failed movie load play a song rather than the movie. Plus it bookmarks where you are in the movie.
