I got actually very good signal quality with my router in N-only mode, but pretty horrible with G-only (connection dropouts, timeouts, very poor reception).

Both were pretty bad power-consumption wise though, so I quickly disabled wifi again completely. I noticed that my battery lasts a lot longer (about 10-12 hours more) when I'm on 3G only.
