hmmm.
If you have the old PS pad, I know there's usb adaptors to use the original.

I have something like this USB Twin JoyPad Game Pad:

So, Kernel power + H-E-N gives you usb support.
get a OTG Cable Micro 5pin USB male to USB female.
Plug the controller into the OTG, plug the OTG into the N900 and fingers crossed.

I'm not sure if it will work (waiting for the OTG) but i'm trying to do this... if it doesn't then I guess the kernel/modules/HEN does not support it.

I'll keep you posted when the I try it.
