As much as I'd love to merge the changes, I'm currently very busy with other things. I think I'll manage to find at least some time this weekend.

My apologies for not getting back on this one earlier. The bug is introduced by bfs.patch, which is the absolute worst patch for the bug to be in. I'm not sure whether I'm skilled enough to bisect the whole patch to find the root of the issue, unfortunately :-/.
I only have limited spare time this- and next week, so I'll dig deeper into the issue again after then.
