I've customized my Navit experience quite a bit. I keep meaning to pull it apart and post the different bits to the Navit Wikit, but then I change something else. But, I will share with you what I am running now.

http://www.frontiernet.net/~flybrick...cleaned.tar.gz

This is simply a tar of my ".navit" directory. I have split up the navit.xml file into smaller files. The "*.lo" files are different screen layouts (map styles). The "*.vpr" files are different vehicle profiles. Both of file types are included from navit.xml.

The currently map style I am using is a modified version of the OSM style that makes things a little more easy to see. I have also made a "dark" version of the style for use at night. The styles both use icons from the OSM Icons that are mentioned with the original. I store these in "/media/mmc1a/navit/poi/png", which is on one of my extra partitions on my MMC.

The screen overlay started out as Mineque_001, but I have added a couple extra things to it, including a button on the right side to turn on and off the contour lines.

I know I have done more customizations, but I can't remember all of them....

These images show you my customizations of the OSM map style and the Mineque_001 overlays. The extra buttons added are
  • Turn on/off Speech (top left)
  • Tilt View in 3D (up/down arrows on left)
  • Zoom In (bottom left)
  • Show Route (bottom middle)
  • Zoom Out (bottom right)
  • Compass (top right)
  • Odo and Average Speed (below compass)
  • Turn on/off Contour Lines (middle right)

Map showing route to destination and some POIs.

Map showing Park with Roads, Trails (red dashed), and Contour Lines; and a Route
[Something about the screen shot left a tail of the route behind the current location marker.]

Enjoy,
