Looks like a security bug, so can't help you here (except the advise from support forum).

Also, our exchange server is not configured to require auto-lock. So it shouldn't have made me lock down my phone in the first place. It never required it for my N900 or any of the Androids or iPhones of my colleagues. Our exchange is hosted on Office 365, I'm using an N9 with PR1.1.
When you are creating the account just check the "non-provisionable device" checkbox to ignore security policy provided by server (not all servers allow it).
