I've used an N810 with the same OS version and had no such problem.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
The volume's not muted, is it?
Does anything happen in the UI at all (e.g. progress bars, timers, error messages)?
If all else fails, there's a new OS release out now - try upgrading.
