I just downloaded a bunch of maps this morning. Possible solution:

1. Delete the contents of your maps folder (I think it is called ~/.cities)
2. Update to the latest ovi suite, now called nokia suite. Not to be confused with the older nokia suite.
3. Do a complete file system check on your N900 (/opt, /MyDocs, etc)
4. Try again.

5. ...pirate a version of sygic mobile maps and use that instead.
