Asbestos undies on...

Don't take this the wrong way, but these are pretty weak PIM apps being suggested here.

One thing I decided to buy back in '99 was a Palm calendar with icons on the events (Action Names, now Agendus). That way, at a glance I could see what was scheduled where. I got to really enjoy integrated todos with alarms attached to them. It also had integration with contacts that could be grouped. This was nine years ago! I soon after switched to Datebk5, and I really enjoyed what you could do with floating events and especially the templates. When I went to PPC briefly, I was blown away by Pocket Informant. Check out what THAT can do.

On this amazing palmtop computer - I can't even set which day starts the week?

I don't want to minimize the hard work the developers are doing on GPE - it's a great start, but it's really weak. It's almost, but not quite as good as having a paper planner stuck in your n8x0 case.

i.e. The toolbar has no "New Event" button? It limits appointments from 8-6? If I'm looking at the day view, and hit Menu/File/New (sigh) it defaults the event to the beginning of the day, not the current time - then has the gall to prompt you that you are trying to set an appoinment in the past! How about an appointment that has no time constraints - say, an anniversary. I don't want to schedule that as an all day event, because it's not the same thing, in my mind.

It's a pretty forms app (and a handy little program), but it's not a PIM. The combination we have of open source + powerful machines + brilliant programmers COULD develop something that smokes those, but... "GPE is good enough". It's in no way good enough, and please don't stop working on it. Please jot these things down (I'll try and forward them somewhere appropriate) and PLEASE don't be offended by this post.
