Nice idea.
But how about a desktop linux distro with added phone functionality and possibly the Maemo 5 multitasking? Is less work.
And it does not have to look like Maemo/ have Hildon IMO. If the screen is big enough, say 4.5" to 5" ( like the old Maemo tablets), then maybe Gnome (with Maemo 5 like multitasking) is good enough. Gnome 3 is already tablet ready, that's why they changed the interface that much.
Most of my use of the N900 is as a tablet/PDA. I don't use phone feature that much.
