As reguards fAircrack, I thought I had to enable them manually, too.
However, I click on enable injection and then enable monitor mode.

Enable injection loads the kernel modules for the bleeding edge wifi drivers as per your reference attached above; as I said before, it is not required for KP46 onwards, since they are part of the kernel already. Only required to do this in fAircrack if you have the stock kernel.

Pressing the Enable Monitor mode button in fAircrack essentially runs the following

iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor
ifconfig wlan0 up
