I'm hv'ing the same problem. After chancing my background there is a black block in my "feeds" screen.

My first idea was as well, the the icons might be not transparent, but I was wrong, they are. This means the program is blacken the spot, before putting the icon and the text. Hope you can fix that easily.

At the same time I checked the icons and figured out that they aren't compressed well. I've done that with PNGOUT, which saves about 40%. No problem seen so far.

May I send the downsized icons to you.

As you can see I'm really into this app. Thanks a lot for your effort on it.
