After much research, the good news is that AOL does use POP3!

Follow this link to AOL help pages…

An informative post is also available at about.com…
http://email.about.com/cs/aoltips/qt/et050704.htm

AOL advise that…

'You can now send and receive your AOL or AIM e-mail using any e-mail program, as long as it supports either the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) or the Post Office Protocol (POP). You get all the great features AOL or AIM e-mail has to offer and the flexibility to read and send e-mail via a third-party e-mail client.'

Create a new account with the following configuration options:
For N810
1/4 Account Name = Whatever
Account Type = POP3
2/4 Name = Your Name
Username = firstpartofyouremailaddress
Password = your account password
Email Address = firstpartofyouremailaddress@aol.com
3/4 Incoming Server (POP3) = pop.aol.com
Outgoing server (SMTP) = smtp.aol.com
Don't tick 'use connection specific SMTP servers' box
4/4 Click 'Advanced' tab

INCOMING
Tick 'Leave messages on server' box
Password authentication = Normal
Security = None
Incoming email port = 110
OUTGOING
SMTP Authorization = Login
User Name = firstpartofyouremailaddress
Password = your account password
Security = None
Outgoing email port = 587

Click OK
Works for me!

Good luck,
Eurotick
