Yes China recently became the largest smartphone market in the world.
But the combined market-share of the aforementioned countries is vastly bigger.
When one factors in the 20-odd other countries the N9 went to the market-shares might be similar, hard to say.
There's no doubt most of those 20-odd other countries are 2nd/3rd-tier economies though.
Meanwhile the Lumia's since December have rolled-out or are in the midst of rolling-out to at least several N9 launch countries.
And at the same time the N9 hasn't been allowed into the aforementioned markets.
And the Lumia's are scheduled to enter China in April (already on the black market there).
Plus you claim the N9 had been selling in all it's launch countries for mths before the 800 stared rolling out.
That's wrong, depending on launch country, there is a huge difference between when it was actually on shelves.
For e.g. in China it wasn't actually on shelves until well into December (was on black market before then).
Hell as another example, it's only finally rolling-out to Lebanon in March.
No doubt there's other relatively insignificant countries that it's only just arriving in, or hasn't yet.
That's the weird thing about the N9's roll out, there's nothing like the shiny Lumia Map which charts the Lumia's worldwide roll-out.
With the N9 it's been "cloak and dagger" in that regard for the whole time.

The main difference is the N9 stopped selling after a very short time, while the Lumia is increasing.
With the price drop in some regions, the N9 is hanging in there, at least seemingly, but that wont last for very long, the N9 is a niche device.
I'm not at all surprised that the Lumia's are increasing...
It would make sense for that to be happening, given how the N9's been positioned.
But that's okay, the N9 can be a niche device, doesn't necessarily make it a bad device LT.
N900 kicked along pretty well, & it it was notably more niche (step 5 of 6) than the N9.

Supposedly N9 was targeted for markets where Symbian still has some kind of strength, or at least isn't drastically declining.
But there were many exceptions to that, India as one example.
