I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my sd-card. Tha script complained about that the n900 kernel package is missing and this could lead to that it won't boot. So I copied the uImage from my latest installation.
U-boot pr1.3 was installed and it started to boot the kernel. Everything was ok but then it started to complain about

No available ptys.
or something similar.
I have read on a forum that this also occured on some x86 installations and they solved this problem by adding some options to Grub bootloader. I don't know if we can bypass this error with this method since the U-boot works differentely (I think).
