Can you not do that on the N9 version?
There's an about:settings* (or something like that) in opera, maybe it's possible to switch to the native VKB in there (doubtful).
I know someone had success changing something to do with fonts in there.

*it's a separate config section for anything that's not in the proper GUI settings
