Disagree. When I had a Samsung Captivate, I flashed new ROM's on it, was supported by the community. That was my decision. But Samsung would have supported my issues - I wanted a phone to hack.

When I got a Motorola Atrix, I had an issue that was resolved quite damn fast by them. In fact, I had a new Atrix in my hands before I got a chance to even send out the bad one. They supported me without question and hesitation.

When I got my Nokia 770 and had an issue, they sent it back, untouched, unchanged... wasn't even flashed back to stock. I found this forum, fixed it myself. That forced my decision pertaining support.

Same thing about the N810 - I got good enough to hack it around to where I felt good about it. And the N900 didn't fully support my 3G bands so no way in hell I was going to use EDGE. And the support on it was abysmal - so again Nokia didn't support me.

HP has supported my TouchPad - updated releases and I was missing a cable from the box, they sent me one without question. Motorola would support my Xoom, but I've hacked it to the point where I know I'm outside of the area of support. But I use XDA for support - no issues so far.

But a Nokia N9, I can't even get a SquareTrade warranty for it. I drop it, break it, brick it or have any other issues... no warranty whatsoever. I have to fix it myself. And that choice while taken away from me, I still did it anyway because of the prior experience with other forum support.

But to other lesser savvy users, they're screwed if they don't know this place. They should be able to get their stuff - dumb yet rich enough to pay for it, they should get access to standard warranty work if need be - instead of none whatsoever.

Only Nokia has consistently been like that for me in the last decade.
