I have loved every one of my devices in this family, from my original pre-release 770 to my slick N9s. But for the most part it's nostalgia that has me hanging on to the older tablets, since for whatever reason (Flash not updated, GPS app abandoned, etc) they have not kept up with my day-to-day needs.

I have played around with N9 development and starting to get a handle on QML. If only it was as easy to develop for the older devices, I might come up with some projects...

Anyway, like Quim, I'd like to see council candidates who avoid getting mired in the muck of How Things Could Have Been and focus on today's realities. And if that includes finding ways to bring new life to old devices, great! Conversely if it means forming a bridge to opentablets.org, than I'm definitely on board.

Regardless, let's find focus.
Sorry, but this is about MAEMO. And about maemo community. I take the meego renaming very indicative for a complete break of product philosophy at Nokia and reorientation towards something that doesn't meet my personal day-to-day needs. N9 isn't a NIT, it's definitely a smartphone. And I'm rather concerned about Nokia obviously and seriously thinking a service period of even less than 2 years would be appropriate for a device that had an initial price tag of 600EUR, no spare parts or repair available, and no valid successor that could allow protecting my investment, both regarding hw/sw as well as all the time I spent into this project. This is a clear difference and break from what e.g. the "transition" N810->N900 brought us. I happily moved from N810 to N900 for my day-to-day primary gadget. I can't see that happen for N900->???, for a dozen of reasons.
That's the reason (are the reasons even) why I feel a bit itchy whenever somebody comes suggesting maemo community should move on. I'm doing all the contrary (actually desperately searching for further new spare N900 to stash them away for the time my current one breaks) and I conceive it as a bit of direct attack when Nokia acts like they don't care what's happening to fremantle. Actually I'm finally bitter about Nokia since the day the news spread that Nokia can't repair/replace N900 on warranty anymore, something other companies got sued for in class action cases at court. Other details are supl.nokia.com silently bitrotting, rendering N900 GPS (in default setup) useless, etc pp. A long list, that I feel is going to get perpetuated in this thread when notions like "meego is it now" show up.
What all that got to do with council elections? Well I hope that council is aware of and tackling these issues, when Nokia representatives deny them. That council defines their domain as MAEMO domain, not meego/symbian/$WHATEVER transition for whole community. My 2 cents, now back to CSSU and IRC.
