you dont have to make it "hide" like making the screen bigger, but make the letters black or make them fade ("breath" to black color". Maybe go black after use a few seconds, then going white when tapped.

the idea is to not have the battery icon on the bar constanly when reading twitter, because, believe me or not, in a few months the LED will have a screen burn from the battery icon or other stuff.
