No need to apologise mate, it was so long ago now that it would be buried in the archives by now. Part of the problem was due to the greatness of the n900 itself. The phone is that customisable that you would never see two the same and everyone liked to have different programs. I have always though it would be cool to have my own personal image but then I would have to create one every time I installed a program that i liked and worked well. Back up performs this task well in many cases and is alot quicker to create, which reminds me... I need to reflash mine very soon.
