@super-hero: I think smileys are so far only displayed when the other user selects an Emoji. :-) ;-) :-P etc are not yet converted.

@Fine_Mind: It's up to the dev to make those decisions. But I don't think sending Emoji are such a high priority, first the basic UI should fit without bugs. It was important to receive Emoji. Just use normal smileys for now or include your emotions in the message

@tgalal, I made a few screenshots to show the bugs I experienced with new UI:

1st picture: While portrait mode is fine, landscape mode pushes conversation way too far up (screenshots are from same conversation). A small thing: Back button isn't shown correctly in dark mode.

2nd picture: Landscape mode - input windows disappears behind keyboard once you start typing text.

3rd picture: Ok... that person has a ridiculous long status message lol But as you can see the Emoji causes to overlap the status msg with the next name.
