In one university I needed it unchecked to be able to connect (otherwise it would prompt for all information again) for the other it needed to be checked.
I have of course tried that as well!
I don't know if it would also connect to the other site if it was checked, but I can definitely not connect to my main site if it was checked or not.
Unfortunately, eapd (which is obviously responsible for the AUTH process) is not very verbose, and I couldn't find a way to get some further details about its behaviour since it seems to be proprietary.
With inception available for the N9 now it might be a solution to replace the full wifi stack with wpa_supplicant... However, I'm unsure if I'm really willing to do this since it appears to be quite some work...
I'm still waiting for a reply of the network administration to get further information on the security procedure implemented here, that might help as well...
