My N800 will say "Charging" when it's off and plugged in, and when I power it on it will give the "Battery Full" and "Disconnect to save energy" messages. Before I went to OS2008 it would show Battery Full on the front of the unit when it was off and charging, but since the net effect is the same I'm not worried.
