I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to leave it in RD mode. But since I'm not a developer (and the page had all kinds of warnings about it (http://www.maemo.org/maemowiki/HowDoiBecomeRoot)) I don't see a reason to stay in RD mode.

Remember the typical user they are trying to sell this too, knows less about Linux, than they do about computers. I'm assuming that if it's in RD mode and you mistype something bad things will happen.
The only reason I want to keep it in RD mode is so I can switch back between USB Host and Peripheral mode quickly.
