Sorry fot the stupid question, but why doesn't "ifconfig" alone work if my working directory is /sbin ?

Ok, now with the command ifconfig wlan0 hw ether macadress, I get:

ifconfig: SIOCSIFHWADDR: Operation not permitted

Does it have something to do with Aegis?
