You should see some of the crap I had to read over xmas looking for iPod touch answers for my mother.

Why yes, the truly clueless will persist without end. That doesn't mean we SHOULD have issues with the base product.

The problem here is you are making a blanket statement that the OS is "defective" when many of us are using it successfully every day. My MicroB isn't crashing, my 8GB SDHC cards are not unmounting, I'm placing SIP voice and video calls, etc -- all with the built in software. Am I really the exception, or is it possible there are some hardware and new user issues at work being discussed in the forums?

You are certainly NOT the exception, as many other people are fully satisfied. The point is there are many users having problems out of the box that have deeper implications than "how do I connect to wireless?" or "how do I turn on the unit?" questions in nearly any forum.

Furthermore, it would be one thing to consolidate the *****ing in to one post, but then you decided to make another with a completely meaningless poll to "get Nokia's attention" and serve as a "warning" to others? Sure, that will drive the point home. Realists will always see through extremist posts like this and IMO others are beyond help.

Realists? All the people with genuine concerns are not enough for Nokia to respond, and your statement mirrors Nokia's ambivalence. For all your help in these matters, you still find a place for compartmentalizing yourself from other people. Is it possible that a certain batch of N800s may be flawed or defective? Is it possible that you happen to see the IT2008 OS as perfection while others are wondering what Nokia was smoking? The writing is on the wall, and yet you cannot read what is written. Denial of something based on what you experience and disregarding the experience of others as untrue, it's you who has no concept of the collective reality. You only have your own to refer to. I accept your success with the device and wish you many happy years of use. You cannot accept that other people may have issues that are not user generated errors.

I would:

1) Return the Nokia
2) Order a better(?) device
3) Try reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand for some balance. She does share your love for lengthy prose.

Carry on with your poll, I won't take up any more space.
Space? That's what this is all about. You fear that there will be so much traffic and so many threads that this forum will become cluttered. The "stay on point and on course" cop. It's okay, I've been posting what I've experienced and offered the comparison of different devices in my posts. Hopefully that will help those who buy Nokia devices. I for one, will be moving on to the delight of you and your ilk. Therefore my posting blitz tonight. I'll be petering off my time in these forums as the entire N800 experience has left me with no choice but to accept defeat. You've won and I'll be gone.
The forums I've contributed to are for the most part a mere stepping stone to real-world meetings and events, so those people know me personally and I have helped them as I've tried to help in here with what I do know. The candor afforded by actual CONTACT with real people makes you appreciate even the least capable member. You can even have real fun with them, too. Maybe that is the difference here, people forget there's other real people out there who may not have the same technical background as we do. Or maybe you just don't associate with "those people." But at least they are curious enough to check it out with such helpful souls as yourself.
(you can pat yourself on the back now.)
EDIT: What a wonderful reading selection you have chosen for me! It looks interesting enough to write a review for
How did you know I could relate to that book? Mindreader!
