It wasn't the only thing they could have done. Arguing that is like telling someone who is getting sicker and sicker with a cold that the only thing they could do is to commit suicide. Nokia was getting sick but they took the WORST possible choice of all the choices they had. Even doing nothing would be better than suicide! Of course, Elop really didn't want to taste the GREEN ANDROID flavored NyQuil--which would certainly have helped a lot more than taking Windows Phone flavored hemlock.
