John, thanks for the explanation, but I have no internet connection on the road, nor will I have anytime in the foreseeable future. I do understand the limitations of the raster maps, and I'm not really complaining. I would be willing to pay for vector capability, as I already have with Mapopolis, and until it's available I'll probably stay with Mapopolis, because it works, and works well. The maps are getting rather old, but fortunately streets rarely move very far. I can get newer maps on MM, and view them if necessary, even if it's not possible to route off them. BTW, have you given any thought to compiling MM for other Linux distros? I have an Asus Eee that works very well in the car, and having MM on that would be very nice. It comes with Xandros, a Debian fork, and .deb files install easily. Just in case you have nothing better to do...
