Question is: If you just bought a new N800, what programs would you place into it? I particularly need up-to-date info on ability to read Excel and Word format pages, also I need a very good appointment calendar program.

What is the best out there for the N800 with upgraded 2008 software...games...office programs...stock...you know, all the good stuff. I am getting it in the mail later this week, any info would be helpful.

Again, I will search in the future, just needed the latest and greatest.

greetings from the gulf coast!

for simply reading word docs, you must install:

antiword (from the abiword repository)
docreader

to read excel files, install gnumeric

IIRC, these apps work under os2008

for calendering, gpe-calender - however, dunno about os2008 compatibility (i use os2007 and will wait out upgrading to os2008 for a rev or two)

btw, i have an n800 w/os2007 and i am *very* happy with my selection of ancillary clients:

applets:
omweather
osso-statusbar-cpu

extras:
xterm-osso
gpe-calendar
camera
fmradio
maemo recorder
maemo screengrabber
maemoTk
MPlayer
unzip
maemochron

games:
aisleriot
eightyone

office:
evince
doc reader
gnumeric
leafpad
Sdictviewer

tools:
diskusage
wifiInfo
htop

(and sundry command-line utilities, such as OpenSSH, the nano editor, etc.)

have a happy!
