To me, "ecosystem" is kind of like stock markets. It is based on confidence and speculation more than actual quality of product or company. As a user or as a developer, you want some confidence that the device/platform is worthwhile to invest your time and money, and that it will be supported and enhanced for a long time, there will be more (and compatible!) devices in the future, etc. Basically you want to know the improvements and updates are not going to stop.

As soon as end-of-life is in the sights people start jumping off the ship because speculation that it is no longer a worthwhile investment of time or money. Funny how EOL and ELOP look similar
