This is the easiest thing I ever done with the iT. Thank you, Penguinbait.

I dl the files to PC, confirmed the file length, txf to N800 /media/mmc1, rename tarball.tar.tar to .tar.bz2, followed installing sequency as in thread #1, it then installed in one shot. and I am now totally mesmerized by the kdesktop.......thanks again.
