There is also a wireless "command center" you can get for the Roomba. It looks a bit expensive, but wouldn't have the IR interference problems...

Let me take another look at my iRobot protocol; I haven't been able to find a different protocol for the 600 series, but then I haven't really been able to test on any iRobot device yet.

I have a Samsung 7000 series LED TV. According to my tape measure, Pierogi works fine up to 10ft (~3m). Anything out of that and it is a hit or miss. Is that distance consistent with your tests?
Yeah, actually, that's about the average range I've been getting on various devices. It depends a bit on the receiver as well as the N900. Most regular remote controls do get a little more range, but not a whole lot more; most consumer IR devices don't seem to be designed to work at extreme ranges.

I'm going to pull out a tape measure as well and see how I match up on Sixwheeledbeast's new comparison page.
