Two enhancements to this idea:

1) Have a 'No Thanks' button (actually I think that two additional buttons would be better: 'Good Stuff' and 'Crap' and just leave 'Thanks' as a social nicety button).

and

2) Weight 'Good Stuff' and 'Crap' by the number of posts of the person pressing the button and sort the posts accordingly. That way folks like the General and Milhouse could instantly promote/demote an item.
