What did your friend do with the phone before it stopped working? Did he drop it or was there water damage? Could you please remove the sim tray and open the USB door, inside you should see two white stickers above the torx screws. These are moisture sensitive stickers and If they are any other colour then it has been exposed to water.

If not and there is no signs of any life after (by holding the power button down for 6secs) the phone had been on charge for at least a day, then personally, I would not be so sure yet if flashing will help?


That said though it would not hurt to try a flash still.
