Personally I see several strategies.

1. The diametrically but equally unsubstantiated opposing model.
2. Ignore them completely.
3. Moral high ground.
4. Bait and switch

One of the key factors that can be relied upon is that a troll usually can't resist from having the last word and they usually hang themselves ever so gracefully if they are baited just right.

It must be ever so frustrating being a troll knowing that your sole purpose in life is to defend a completely meaningless or hypocritical position.

Its hard not to feel sorry for them.
