Let's say your data account is number #3 use this as phone number:

*99***3# (i.e. *99***<cid># where <cid> is the CID number)

on my SE phone I had to use the CID number to make it work.
The phone doesn't show the CID number...I tried from 0-10 but everything fails with the same problem.
Allthough I can't test it right now I'm quite sure the cable connection uses *99***1#...the moto phone software automatically sets up the connection @WINXP
And it works fine...At home I will look if there are some "special" settings at this connection but I think I did that the first time I tried to get it work.
