In /etc/event.d you have to remove, if present:
hildon-startup-progress (runs when X is running)
progress (runs before X runs, using framebuffer)

In /etc/Xsession.d you have to remove, if present:
01xprogress

and in /etc/Xsession.post you remove, if present:
22xprogress-stop

That should get rid of the dots for good (at least *I* don't see them, ever).
